SPACE

After Doorzügeli - an excursion into the original, Innerschwyz folk music tradition - AMBÄCK start with their new CD and tour «RAUM», where they set a milestone at the end of 2019 with «Chreiselheuer». Markus Flückiger (Schwyzerörgeli), Andreas Gabriel (violin) and Pirmin Huber (double bass) need this space for their compositional and playful free spirit. Space means space for improvisation, larger curves, dynamics and also quiet things. With their music, AMBÄCK are constantly researching and discovering, creating new sound spaces and yet remaining true to themselves. At least as far as joy of playing, virtuosity and quality of the compositions of the three musicians are concerned.

«Wuhan»

documentary novel

Translated from the Chinese by Hans Peter Hoffmann and Brigitte Höhenrieder

Moderator: Claudia Wirz, sinologist and author, Zurich www.claudiawirz.ch

Translator: Hung-Yu, Dominik Wu

Hung-Yu, Dominik Wu (born 1987 in Taiwan) is a lecturer in Chinese at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. In addition to teaching, he is an editor for Liao Yiwu's publications at S. Fischer Verlag. He accompanies Liao Yiwu as an interpreter to literature festivals in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

"We have to fight back home with our souls." Liao Yiwu

Right after the outbreak of the Corona virus, citizen journalist Li travels to the epicenter of the disaster. "Because he's not afraid of ghosts," according to the job advertisement, he finds a job in the crematorium. He quickly realizes that the official number of victims is not correct. But the brief moment in which he believes he can tell the truth passes overnight: he is discovered, followed and documented live on the Internet as he is brutally arrested.

In this shockingly timely documentary novel »Wuhan«, Liao Yiwu takes us to the heart of the unsolved questions and tells the fascinating investigation into the background of a massive cover-up. Where did the virus come from and what happened in Wuhan? Protocols disappear and lies cement the story of the party's heroic victory - propaganda that poisons people, like the virus.

Liao Yiwu lives in exile in Berlin.

Su 18.09
Concert: Carmela Konrad and Philipp Leon Fankhauser
Start 11:00 a.m. / Reservation: 41 (0) 41 497 52 05

Hagebutte, Chüjerglüüt, Sternestaub & Rosmarin

Heimatvogel, Steets in Truure, Munotglöckelein, Lueget vo Bergen und Tal – many people hear the songs as soon as they read the titles. These are just a few of the traditional Swiss folk songs that Carmela and Philipp have prepared and set to music in a new and sensual way. Our own song compositions also tell of the beauty and intimacy of our wonderful language. The arrangements and harmonizations are full of surprises. The art of interpretation meets filigree virtuosity and sensitive sound design.

"Carmela Konrad's voice, a pure source of brilliant beauty and deep sincerity in dialogue with the virtuoso, sensitive guitar playing of Philipp Leon Fankhauser and the singing of his gentle voice, are a heartwarming abduction into the lovely poetry of these deeply touching, newly interpreted folk tunes [...] Carmela Konrad and Philipp Leon Fankhauser are a great enrichment for our folk song collection and, moreover, a discovery for folk music that one would never want to be without."

Federico Emanuel Pfaffen

Carmela Konrad

completed the double degree in singing and concert guitar at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts with distinction. Important impulses followed in numerous master classes. She has a broad repertoire, starting with early baroque works and ending with contemporary compositions. She has taken part in numerous world premieres; some are dedicated to her personally.

Her particular passion is the works of J. S. Bach and Heinrich Schütz. She is just as enthusiastic about chamber music and the song as part of her international concert career.

Carmela Konrad is also a visual artist: exhibitions of her pictures in Switzerland and Italy (e.g. at the international comix festival Fumetto Luzern!), the illustrated guitar play booklet Unterm Sternenzelt, published in collaboration with Philipp Leon Fankhauser, and the design of a SBB Underpass.

In addition to numerous other awards, Carmela Konrad has won prizes from the Marianne and Curt Dienemann Foundation, Lucerne, and the Mathilde Müller Prize 2021.

Philipp Leon Fankhauser

grew up in Adligenswil (LU); Studied classical guitar and composition at the Hochschule Musik Luzern; since then freelance musician and lecturer for guitar at the University of Education in Lucerne.

Contemporary compositions for the Uri String Orchestra, the Aargau Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Lucerne Chamber Soloists, among others; Pop/rock/jazz productions, including for the Tortellini circus and for his own solo projects; Various text settings by Max Huwyler, Tim Krohn, Livio Andreina, among others; also on the road as singer-songwriter Philipp Leon.

Concert: Simin Tander & Jörg Brinkmann
Start 5.30 p.m. / Reservation: 41 (0) 41 497 52 05

Simin Tander, vocals
Jörg Brinkmann, cello, electronics

The two exceptional musicians Simin Tander (vocals) & Jörg Brinkmann (cello, electronics) have traveled far and long for their sound and are wonderfully out of date. As adepts of an often forgotten art in jazz, storytelling, they sing and play about the sons of the stars, love and the salt of the earth. They discover song treasures from early music and other musical traditions and immerse them in their very own sound cosmos of lyrical, eclectic-free improvisations, with words in English, French, Pashto (Afghaani) and fantastic.

"The German Jazz Expo on day three undeniably exemplified the rich diversity of European jazz, notably through the transgression of time and language by vocalist Simin Tander, (...) and cellist Jörg Brinkmann. Having started with medieval French music, this extraordinary duo ended the showcase with a song in her father's language. "Jazzjournal (UK)

Concert: Hanneli-Musig
Start 5.30 p.m. / Reservation: 41 (0) 41 497 52 05

Folk music in perfection – dizzyingly beautiful

Thrilling traditional dances: melting waltzes, fast-paced gallops and down-to-earth polkas, enriched with surprising harmonies, rhythmic specialties from the Hanny Christen collection: 11,874 dance melodies from the period between 1800 (and in some cases even earlier) and the middle of the last century.

And of course the extremely popular request concert, where the audience can choose pieces from the endless repertoire of the collection.

Peter Gisler, double bass, Schwyzerörgeli

Dani Häusler, clarinets, saxophone

Ueli Mooser, various instruments

Fabian Müller, cello, viola

Frangi Gehrig, accordion

Johannes Schmid-Kunz, violin, recorder, double bass

Hanny Christen (1899 -1976) was a tireless collector of folk music and folkloric material from all over Switzerland. The melodies were played or sung to her by older minstrels, which she then wrote down in her little notebook. Sometimes she was allowed to copy whole minstrels' dance books. From 1956 she also worked with a tape recorder. During her lifetime, she was largely denied recognition for her tremendous achievement. She gave her huge estate to the University Library of Basel, where it slumbered unprocessed for almost 30 years. In 1992 it was discovered by Fabian Müller in the basement of the Basel University Archives. Under his leadership, a team of authors worked for around a decade on the publication of this collection, which was then known as the "Swiss Folk Music Collection. The dance music of Switzerland of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century” was published on 5,000 pages in 10 volumes with extensive image material and an additional index volume.

The gray eminence of the Swiss folk music scene, Ueli Mooser, and his wife Chatrina prevented this great work from being done solely for museum existence in the libraries. Together with music lovers, they founded Hanneli-Musig, which deals exclusively with Hanny Christen's collection.

Ideal for anyone between the ages of 8 and 88 - whether you're a classical music lover or would flee at the mere mention of Mozart.

IGUDESMAN & JOO

“A Little Nightmare Music”

...a unique show, full of virtuosity, enchanting music and crazy humor.

BERNARD HAITINK — conductor Aleksey Igudesman and Hyung-ki Joo played for my 80th birthday. I almost died laughing! I'd love to invite her back to my 85th, but you'd probably think that would be reckless.

SIR ROGER MOORE — Actor "A Little Nightmare Music" is the wrong title. Hyung-ki and Aleksey are a dream!

GIDON KREMER — violinist I cried with laughter! You have to see these gifted musicians. They show life itself from the most humorous side.

JULIAN RACHLIN — violinist Two top notch musicians and maybe the best entertainers I've ever seen. I laugh my ass off every time I see them, yet I'm touched by their wonderful musicality at the same time.

MISCHA MAISKY — cellist Igudesman & Joo are not only musically virtuosic, but also masters of comedy. They enchant me again and again. This is definitely one of the funniest and most entertaining shows I've ever seen.

Magical magic and fascinating illusions

with the magician

SIDERATO

alias

Peter Mürner

Mathematics professor and former academic director of the University of Bern;
Colonel in the General Staff with the armored forces.

Most wizards are honest people: they tell you they want to deceive - and then they do it.

Siderato presents events that cannot actually be.

It combines science, technology and the seemingly supernatural.

He takes things from where they are not and places them where they cannot be found - because they are not there.

Magicians are like little children.

If you think they're doing something, they're doing nothing.

And if you think they are doing nothing, then they have already done.

The audience can participate personally in some tricks.

And Siderato also contributes to the correct understanding of the art of magic.

"The most beautiful experience we can ever have is that of the mysterious" (Albert Einstein).

On the way in the new Afghanistan

On August 15, 2021, Kabul fell and a chapter in world history ended with the invasion of the Taliban. The war in Afghanistan was over, at least for the time being, the West defeated and the Taliban back. But who are the Taliban anyway? And what do you want?

The NZZ correspondent Andreas Babst traveled to Afghanistan shortly after the fall of Kabul. He visited the place where it all began, the mosque of the Taliban founder Mullah Omar. He sat in occupied villas surrounded by Taliban fighters and in offices with overwhelmed mujahideen who are suddenly supposed to lead a country.

Andreas Babst grew up in Lucerne and has been the NZZ's South Asia correspondent in Delhi since 2020. In his first year as a correspondent, he covered the devastating second wave of Covid in India, spent more time in crematoriums than he liked, met a guru who became a billionaire, interviewed Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan. And fell into disrepair in Afghanistan. He has visited the country twice this year and is already planning the next trips.

New Years Eve
savoir-vivre

Let's celebrate into 2022 with the theme savoir-vivre

Su 12.12
Concert: Joo, Colombet, Merlin Trio
Start 11:00 a.m. / Reservation: 41 (0) 41 497 52 05

Pierre COLOMBET, violin
Raphaël MERLIN, cello
Hyung-ki JOO, piano

Maurice Ravel: Piano Trio in A minor (1914)
Johannes Brahms: Piano Trio in B major, opus 8 (1889)

Pierre COLOMBET, violin, and Raphaël MERLIN, cello, have achieved an unparalleled global career with the QUATUOR ÉBÈNE.

Founded in 1999 as a leisure activity in the repeating halls of the music college, the quartet became internationally famous for its top class in all genres - pop, jazz, world music. The New York Times wrote: "A string quartet that can easily morph into a jazz band". In 2020 it was invited to perform all Beethoven string quartets in New York's Carnegie Hall, followed by a tour of six continents in 2019.

Raphaël MERLIN has a universal musical talent: also a conductor, jazz pianist and composer. He arranges compositions for classical works, jazz, tango and folk songs, and he enjoys participating in experimental projects. In addition to his chamber music work, Raphaël Merlin is a soloist in various renowned orchestras. As a passionate teacher, he gives masterclasses in chamber music around the world. He plays a cello made by Carlo Tononi, Venice (c. 1720).

In addition to playing quartet, Pierre COLOMBET has developed a steadily growing interest in jazz, improvised and electronic music, an opportunity for him to establish connections between cultures and different musical styles and to constantly renew his enthusiasm and curiosity. He plays two violins: a Stradivari (1717) and a violin by Matteo Goffriller (1736).

Hyung-ki JOO

The pianist and composer Hyung-ki Joo inspires with his energetic, brilliantly virtuoso playing, his incomparable charisma and contagious stage presence. He was accepted into the Yehudi Menuhin School at the age of ten, and Yehudi Menuhin himself chose him as a soloist in the concert on his eightieth birthday at London's Barbican Hall. His love for chamber music has determined his musical work since the beginning of his career. His compositions have been performed by well-known ensembles such as the New York Philharmonic and the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich. He has appeared in numerous films including Pianomania, Noseland, and Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Classical Music. As a passionate music mediator, Hyung-ki Joo primarily inspires the next generation of musicians. In his Beyond the Practice Room workshops, the focus is on the joy of making music; he encourages people to break away from “classical” music making. The duo Aleksey IGUDESMAN & Hyung-ki JOO has taken the international music world by storm.

Authoritarian regime - systemic rival - Silk Road project - Chinese navy - company acquisitions - human rights - Hong Kong - Uyghurs - banishment of "feminine men" from television.

From our point of view, the People's Republic of China has come under increasing criticism under these keywords.

Teo Gheorghiu, piano

Isaac Albéniz - Suita Espanola op.47

Modest Mussorgsky - Pictures at an Exhibition

Teo Gheorghiu is particularly popular in Switzerland and has made a name for himself on an international level in recent years. In March 2021, Piano News magazine describes him as a “splendid adult and intelligent pianist”.

Teo Gheorghiu made his debut at the age of twelve with Schumann's piano concerto in the Tonhalle Zurich. Since then he has developed a diverse repertoire and has performed with orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony, Orquestra Sinfonica de Bilbao, Danish National Symphony, Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra Moscow and Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich. He works regularly with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra and the Winterthur Music College. Solo recitals have not only taken him to all major Swiss cities, but also to London (Wigmore Hall), Tokyo (Suntory Hall), Milan (Societa del Quartetto) and Santiago; to the Beethovenfest in Bonn, to the Dvorák Festival in Prague, to the Louvre and to festivals in Bucharest, Gstaad, Verbier, Lucerne and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Highlights in 2021 are his debut at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, a re-invitation to the master interpreters in the Tonhalle Zurich, a recital as part of the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra and the renewed collaboration with his chamber music partners Chiara Enderle Samatanga and Lech Antonio Uszynski.

In 2020 Teo Gheorghiu’s latest CD entitled «Duende» was released on the Claves label. The recording is inspired by a bike tour through France and Spain and includes solo works by Albéniz, Granados, Ravel and Debussy. The album was awarded a Diapason d’Or in 2021 (“Teo Gheorghiu ne fait rien comme tout le monde”).

Teo Gheorghiu, born in 1992, of Romanian origin and citizenships of Canada and Switzerland, won first prize at the San Marino International Piano Competition in 2004 and first prize at the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition in Weimar the following year. In 2010 he was awarded the Beethoven Ring by the Beethoven Festival in Bonn. He spent most of it in London, where he studied with Hamish Milne. Today he lives in Switzerland again.

Teo Gheorghiu is not only an avid cyclist, he also likes to play football, enjoys traveling and goes in search of new discoveries in the world of folk music from all over the world.

BETTINA BOLLER

Klezmer Pauwau

Has played on large and small stages at home and abroad for over 30 years and knows how to inspire his audience with fiery rhythms as well as the happy-wistful mix of the Jewish tradition of Eastern Europe.

Heavy-blooded Ukrainian songs, klezmer, tango, Bern German dialect songs and Slavic folk music: Klezmer Pauwau confidently ignores genre and style boundaries in his current program. As different as the styles are, they ultimately have a common root: music of the little people - music of the driven - the defiantly upright - music between laughing and crying.

Gallows songs, Palmström poems - and their American translator Max Knight A literary-musical Sunday with Niklaus Peter (lecture), Vreni Peter-Barth (flute), Klaus Rupprecht (piano)

Christian Morgenstern's gallows songs and Palmström poems are classics of humorous poetry. What is less well known is that these poems found a translator who translated them into American in a congenial way.

Niklaus Peter presents individual poems with their captivating translations - and also takes a look at the fascinating biography of the translator Max Knight. This landing and reading will be musically designed by Vreni Peter and Klaus Rupprecht.

Dr. Niklaus Peter was pastor at Fraumünster Zurich until the end of June, he has published a bilingual edition of the gallows songs by Morgenstern with the translations of Max Knights in the Schwabe Verlag in Basel.

Policy of a Practicing Entrepreneur

Work and bring results. Results with a view to the next generation but one.

I have always seen myself as an advocate of the concrete. The concrete is based on four pillars:

  • First: that as many people as possible have a job, a perspective and a purpose in life.
  • Second: That the economy remains the innovation world champion.
  • Third: education and research. Apprenticeship is just as important to me as top scientific performance.
  • And fourth, Switzerland has to be in good shape overall. The country and the people, the townspeople and the peasants, young and old. We have to enable more and prohibit less again.

Switzerland is a work of art.

"The competitions show whether you trained properly in the summer."

There is probably no newspaper in Switzerland that did not report on the successful Fähndrich siblings last winter. Cyril Fähndrich is regarded as a great young hope for Swiss cross-country skiing and has already completed his first World Cup races. The older sister has long since arrived in the cross-country world cup circuit and won her first sprint World Cup victory in Dresden in December 2020 and the World Cup silver medal in the team sprint in February 2021 for Switzerland.

The two Fähndrichs give us an insight into their experiences from the last few years up to the current success and share with us the individual steps that lead to it. The summer training with its countless details plays a central role here. The trainings and backgrounds of the summer and the season planning are the keys to a successful competition season in winter. Nadine and Cyril Fähndrich share their emotions, tell how they function during the day of the competition, support each other, train together, cheer together and tell us their coming up goals.

Concert: Hyung-ki Joo, Yu Horiuchi und Johanna von der Deken
Start 5.30 p.m. / Reservation: 41 (0) 41 497 52 05

There is a lot of humor in the work and life of classical musicians. Not all music lovers know that.

Hyung-ki Joo, Yu Horiuchi and Johanna von der Deken lead to this comical side of classical music - with the music itself.

They play music by Purcell, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Rossini, Wolf, Satie, Ibert, Schedrin, Shostakovich, Poulenc - as it is, so that their own joke can be heard.

In addition, texts by Sir Thomas Beecham, Thomas Bernhard, Alfred Brendel, Glenn Gould, Mark Twain - and more.

Yu Horiuchi, piano

has been enchanting audiences all over the world since her debut as a soloist at the age of 16 under the direction of Yehudi Menuhin. Concerts at London's Royal Festival Hall, Lincoln Center in New York, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, St James’s Palace, where she performed in honor of the British royal family. She is one of the very few who are allowed to play Artur Rubinstein's concert piano.

Johanna von der Deken, mezzo-soprano,

Violin studies at the Graz Conservatory, acting training at the Vienna Volkstheater School, singing training at the Vienna Conservatory. Her repertoire ranges from early baroque music to contemporary works. Engagements in operas, concerts, television, film and theater. Librettist.

Hyung-ki Joo, pianist, composer, teacher in master classes, comedian.

Famous locally and worldwide for his concerts with Aleksey Igudesman! Yehudi Menuhin chose Hyung-ki Joo to play as a soloist on his eightieth birthday.

«Fiisigugg»

Nadja Räss, yodel / voice
Markus Flückiger, Schwyzerörgeli

What is a Fiisigugg? Well, you combine an old Germanistic word for "Juggler" with the "Einsiedler" dialect expression for "inventor" or "physicist", then the title of the new program by Nadja Räss and Markus Flückiger comes out.

The yodeler and the Schwyzerörgeler are among the best known minds of the newer Folk music in Switzerland, and together they interpret the tradition in fact, as if a juggler and a tinker had worked together: Playful, staid, virtuoso and yet familiar - that's how they come, the new old ones Ways of the duo as you can hear them on the last CD «sälbander»: music out of time and fashion - deep, longing and touching. Nadja Räss and Markus Flückiger prove that the folk music tradition still gives us a lot and a lot can tackle directly.

Concert: Max Lässer and Pedro Lenz
Start 5.30 p.m. / Reservation: 41 (0) 41 497 52 05

The Concert with Max Lässer und Pedro Lenz is sold out!

Soaring over the Central Plateau

“Mittelland” is what the linguistic poet Pedro Lenz and the string virtuoso Max Lässer call their joint program, a search for the soul of Switzerland.

The Mittelland is the strip of landscape across Switzerland, where our country really takes place. They all live here, the craftsmen and office rubbers, the leftists, the nice ones and the others too, the old and the young. Switzerland is not the Matterhorn, but Egerkingen and Utzensdorf. Or Olten and Baden. Pedro Lenz and Max Lässer, who have decided on this central region for their joint program, are insiders, precise observers of their surroundings and the place in which they live, at the Migroskasse as well as in the cultural temple and the restaurant.

Pedro Lenz has been holding a mirror up to us for years; no one describes us Mittelländer more precisely, more ruthlessly and at the same time more lovingly than him. The two-meter-tall man from Olten can not only write, he is a brilliant teller of his stories. He stands there with lanky understatement and tells us in his extended dialect from Oberaargau how we really work.

Max Lässer analyzed Switzerland musically. Since his Swiss dances, which he recorded almost forty years ago, he has been taking the country's pulse, transporting the Alps to the Mississippi and South Africa to Europe, and is someone who has never cared about genres and styles. Lässer plays Lässer music!

It is entirely logical that they had to find the two of them even though they are fifteen years and about thirty centimeters long apart. They sat down and worked for their “Mittelland” program. Pedro Lenz was hardly able to pull a story out of the drawer, everything is new, and after years of mostly acoustic music, Max Lässer took out his electric guitars, grappled with effects and loop technology and looked for a sound: How does the Mittelland sound musically, how does it sound linguistically? Lenz and Lässer show how our country ticks - funny and thoughtful, profound and subtle, ballad-like and groovy!

Start 11am / Reservation: +41 (0)41 497 52 05

What can we learn in these difficult times of

Chantal Cavin

- the blind triathlete and world champion?

Don't laugh at someone who steps backwards - they might run a run!

I'm pushing my limits.

Those who suffer should do something different.

Chantal Cavin is blind - and multiple world champion, incredibly fast.

She was 14 years old and was practicing judo when a sports accident blinded her overnight. She fell on the back of her head, causing bleeding in the visual center.

She cannot do her work alone, she can and must never be an egoist. In addition to your top fitness, this fact requires unreserved trust in the guidance of other people. Chantal Cavin achieves her success with backbreaking work.

Initially, she wrote to sports clubs asking if there were anyone who would be willing to show her the way from start to finish during the races. The echo was zero. Then she studied the rankings of runs in her area and specifically asked runners. "That took courage, but it brought me a lot."

She has completed the Ironman triathlon five times - 42 km running, 180 km cycling and 3.8 km swimming. At her marathon premiere she ran a time of 3:16 hours. In the world record of 100 meters crawl swimming in Durban, it overtook its predecessor, who had held the record for 22 years.

Chantal Cavin inspires with humor and naturalness:

Together we are stronger. Everyone knows setbacks - people only differ in what they make of them.

Is our brain reasonable?

The human brain is an extraordinarily fascinating organ.

With a weight of 1.2 to 1.4 kilograms and a volume of 1.1 to 1.3 liters, it only takes up two percent of the total body weight or body volume. Regardless of this, it consumes at least two thirds of our total sugar sales. Accordingly, a significant proportion of our blood flows through our brain, namely around a fifth.

The brain consists of 80 to 100 billion nerve cells. Each of these nerve cells has an average of around 10,000 connections to other nerve cells. An unbelievably large number of connection combinations can be stored in this network of around 80 billion by 10,000 connections. Each combination of connections enables different information to be saved.

Little by little, our brain develops more and more possibilities for learning and “shaping” the networks so that these networks can continuously change through environmental experiences and adapt to the specific environment. One speaks of the plasticity of the brain. Our brain is supposed to learn for a lifetime to stay healthy.

Healthy brain areas can take over the functions of damaged areas. The brain is capable of many extreme feats, for better or for worse. An example? Please read this german text:

Usenr Gehrin tcikt adnres

Krorekte Rehctshrceibnug ist egietlnich üerbflsüsig.

But unfortunately the human being is not as sensible as we generally assume and as we want it to be again and again. Rational arguments alone are not enough to have a lasting influence on a decision-making process, no matter how convincing or reasonable these arguments are.

Start 5.30 p.m. / Reservation: +41 (0)41 497 52 05

The 676 NuevoTango Quartet plays tango from all eras, and stylishly bridges the gap between the danceable classics and the anthems of Tango Nuevo.

The power ensemble consisting of

Father and son, Daniel and Michael Zisman (violin and bandoneon),
Sebastien Fulgido (guitar) and
Winfried Holzenkamp (bass)

maintains a powerful, expressive and characteristic sound, which immediately pulls the listener out of the cozy Swiss Saturday evening and hurls him into the heart of pulsating Buenos Aires for a while.

The name of the group says it all:
It refers to the famous, unmistakable club in Buenos Aires of the early sixties, the Tucuman 676. The giants of jazz and bossa nova met there with the greats of tango, especially Astor Piazzolla with his quintet.

Ernst Bromeis - Water Ambassador, expedition swimmer; former Swiss Olympic top sports coach
Start 5.30pm / Reservation: +41 (0)41 497 52 05

Nothing connects us humans more than water. Fateful because we have no choice whether to use the water or not. We have to protect the water if we are to save life.

97% of the water is so salty that we humans cannot consume it, 2% is available in a frozen state or in inaccessible groundwater layers. For humans and all organisms that live in freshwater or on land, 1% remains. 0.3% of the world's water supplies are available as drinking water.

In many countries it takes women five to six hours to get the water they need.

Every resident in Switzerland needs 162 liters of drinking water per day for drinking, cooking, washing and cleaning. If water-intensive products are imported into Switzerland, one speaks of the import of "virtual water". With us, this amount adds up to 4,000 liters of “virtual water” per person per day. If we drink a cup of coffee in the morning, 132 liters of water have already been taken from bodies of water, contaminated or evaporated for the cultivation and processing of the beans. 2500 liters of water were used for 1 kg of rice, 15-400 liters for 1 kg of beef. 10,000 liters of water are required to produce 1 kg of cotton.

Water contaminated with hormones, microplastics or pesticides is destroyed until further notice. Plastic rubbish islands the size of Mexico are now floating on the world's oceans.

I am a person who, like all other people, has opportunities to stand up for my values. When I swim, I don't change the world, only mine. To be alone in the middle of the lake is absolute freedom, even though I'm trapped in the water at the same time. The longer the journey, the more the feeling of being part of something bigger arises.

That and much more will be the topic of this evening. Immerse yourself in the world of Ernst Bromeis www.dasblauewunder.ch.

Musique Simili: Paramundo - a trio on the wrong track

May we seduce you? Explore incredible soundscapes with Musique Simili. Join us on the journey to the mysterious Paramundo. Don't worry, we know this absurd place par coeur - and especially its bewitchingly beautiful music.

With us you are in the best hands: Lucerne's Vicky Papailiou, with Greek roots and acting skills, sings in the highest notes and plucks a profound double bass; Juliette Du Pasquier comes from the Bordelais and plays her violin virtuoso and wild with charm and esprit; and the Simili-Prímás Marc Hänsenberger, a genuine Bernese, loosely carries his bulging accordion filled with melodies in the left and the well-stocked sailor chest in the right. And somewhere between Berne, Bordelais and Greece is Paramundo.

Musique Simili seduces you without a detour: on a journey with a full heart and light luggage - a grandiose sailor's case filled with savoir-vivre, escapades and longing, amours, dreams, tears, nostalgia and laughter, but above all full of musical adventures. Are you there?

Overcoming barriers to thinking

Climate change is one of the most complex global problems that humanity has ever had to solve.

Moderation: Werner van Gent

If we are really serious about climate protection, a fundamental rethink is required. This means that barriers to thinking must be overcome. The current form of political climate populism is as comfortable as it is wrong - just like the denial of climate change.

Without China, the United States and India, there will be no solution to the global problem of global warming. The atmosphere knows no national borders.

The goal of making Europe CO₂ neutral by 2050 is not realistic. The power consumption of the Internet is already causing as many emissions as global air traffic before the Corona crisis.

Politicians have so far refused to accept these realities. Those who decide today will no longer be responsible for the consequences in 2050. The political plans and their effects on the future of Europe are of great concern.

Central to future success will be the ability to ask questions (critical thinking), give new and relevant answers (creativity) and develop useful solutions (entrepreneurial action).

Knowledge alone is no longer enough. Promoting this triad and developing our society in this direction - for the young generation, but also for the elderly - is the central challenge of every educational system.

Reforms in Islam - Compatibility of Modernity and Islam

Lecture and discussion with Seyran Ateş, Imamin in Berlin

Founder of Ibn Rushd - Goethe Mosque in Berlin-Moabit

Moderation: Werner van Gent

Seyran Ateş (57), author and lawyer with her own law firm, opened the liberal Ibn Rushd-Goethe Mosque in Berlin - together with two Swiss women: Saïda Keller-Messahli (Zurich) and Elham Manea (Bern).

The mosque is located inside the building of the St. Johannis church in Berlin Moabit. It represents a progressive, contemporary Islam that is compatible with democracy and human rights. These include issues such as inter-religious marriages and partnerships, homosexuality and the role of women. In it, men and women work as imams.

“Many European countries have made big mistakes in integrating Muslims. In France, for example, there is a huge problem of integration with the Maghreb people. Simply increasing security measures at the expense of freedom is not a solution.

Love your neighbor as yourself - that is the central sentence for me, which I still practice today

I think you can learn a lot from Switzerland. ”

Seyran Ateş has received numerous awards, including the 1st Class Federal Cross of Merit, the Federal Cross of Merit and the Order of Merit of the City of Berlin.

Albin Brun: Schwyzerörgeli, sax, composition
Kristina Brunner: cello, Schwyzerörgeli

Two exponents of new folk music from different generations have found each other here: on the one hand Albin Brun, who is at home on many stages of the world with his bands and can look back on a rich experience, on the other hand the young cellist Kristina Brunner, who has been with different formations for some time draws attention to itself. Schwyzerörgeli and cello complement each other wonderfully in this duo, with their warm timbres the combination brings Bruns compositions to sing - melodious and surprising, playful, virtuoso and touching.

Rupert Sheldrake: Ways To Go Beyond And Why They Work
Start: 11am / Reservation: +41 (0) 41 497 52 05

Lecture and talk in english

Rupert Sheldrake looks at seven spiritual practices that are personally transformative and have scientifically measurable effects.  All provide ways of going beyond our everyday states of mind into a sense of a greater conscious presence, bliss, fuller understanding, or deep connectedness.  Sheldrake is both a scientist and a spiritual explorer. He discusses practices that are not normally thought of as spiritual, such as participation in sports, learning from animals and psychedelic experiences. Also, he debates more traditional practices like fasting, praying, observing holy days and being kind.

He asks why these practices work. Are their effects ‘all inside the brain’ and essentially illusory?  Or can we really make contact with forms of consciousness greater than our own?

Rupert Sheldrake is a biologist and author of more than eighty-five technical papers and fourteen books, including The Science Delusion (in German: Der Wissenschaftswahn).

As a Fellow of Clare College, Cambridge, he was Director of Studies in Cell Biology, and was also a Research Fellow of the Royal Society. He worked in Hyderabad, India, as Principal Plant Physiologist at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), and also lived for two years in the Benedictine ashram of Fr Bede Griffiths in Tamil Nadu. For several years, he was Director of the Perrott-Warrick Project for the study of unexplained human and animal abilities, funded from Trinity College, Cambridge. He is currently a Fellow of the Institute of Noetic Sciences in Petaluma, California and of Schumacher College in Dartington, Devon.

Florianne Koechlin – Schwatzhafte Tomate, wehrhafter Tabak
Beginn 17:30 Uhr / Reservation: +41 (0)41 497 52 05

Doch was folgt aus diesem neuen, so ganz anderen Pflanzenbild?

Lizzie Doron: Sweet Occupation
Beginn 18:00 Uhr / Reservation: +41 (0)41 497 52 05
